Why Isn’t There Mass on Good Friday?

Although you are encouraged to come to our church on Good Friday, it won’t be to attend Mass.

On this day, by a most ancient Tradition, the Church does not celebrate the Sacraments at all, except for Penance and the Anointing of the Sick.

On this day, Holy Communion is distributed to the faithful only within the celebration of the Lord’s Passion, but may be brought at any hour of the day to the sick who cannot participate in this celebration.

The altar should be completely bare, without a cross, without candles and without cloths. On the afternoon of this day, at 3pm in our parish and in most parishes around the world, there takes place the celebration of the Lord’s Passion, consisting of three parts: Liturgy of the Word, Adoration of the Cross and Holy Communion.

Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and myself founded empires; but what foundation did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ founded an empire upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for Him.
