Jeremiah 1:1.4-10
Today at Mass we begin the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah and we start with his calling by God the Father to be His prophet, His spokesperson. Jeremiah resists at first with some excuses. He believes that he is too young and inexperienced in life.
God the Father reassures Jeremiah. Although we all have our limitations, when God calls us to do something for Him, God knows what His choice is and what He is doing in asking and inviting us to minister for Him. God reminds the prophet Jeremiah that he had formed and consecrated him in his mother’s womb. God was already working away quietly and secretly in Jeremiah’s life, to make him ready for this specific role that God had for Jeremiah.
No one comes into this world by accident and without God’s knowledge. Everything that happens is part of God’s providence. God has a plan, a mission for each person, which is unique to them and God equips them adequately for that plan.
We are also free to respond and to co-operate with God. If we say yes to God, we need not fear and doubt God’s choice of us. God will prepare us and give us His Holy Spirit. God does not call us and then abandon us and leave us to our own devises. God infuses us with His blessings and graces and provides us with everything we need to be faithful to the service that He asks of us.
