Feast of Our Lady of Fatima
Today is the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima. Our Lady identified herself as the
“Lady of the Rosary” when she appeared to three shepherd children in the Cova da Iria, near the town of Fatima, Portugal on the 13th of May 1917.She appeared subsequently every month on the 13th, up to and including October. Prior to these apparitions Francisco and his sister Jacinta and cousin Lucia also received in preparation, apparitions from the Angel of Peace and the Guardian Angel of Portugal.
The message to these three children Lucia aged 10, Francisco aged 9 and Jacinta aged 7 was to pray and make sacrifices for sin and for the conversion of sinners and to carry out acts of reparation. Our Lady said “Bear all the sufferings God sends you, in atonement for sins that offend him and for the conversion of sinners”
Francisco died on the 4th of April 1919 aged 10 and Jacinta died on the 20th of February 1920 both during the time of the Spanish flu. Both were canonised on the 13th May 2017.
Lucia became a sister of St Dorothy and on the 10th of December 1925 Sister Lucia received another apparition from the Child Jesus and Our Lady who said
“See, My daughter, My heart surrounded by thorns which ungrateful men pierce at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. Say to all those who for five months, on the first Saturday, confess, receive Holy Communion, recite the Rosary and keep Me company for 15 minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary, in a spirit of reparation, I promise to assist them at the hour of death with all the graces necessary for the salvation of their souls”
Sister Lucia died on the 13th of February 2005 aged 97 and on the 13th of February 2013 was given the title Servant of God, the first major step on the road to canonization
“When lovers are together, they spend hours and hours repeating the same thing: ‘I love you!’ What is missing in the people who think the rosary monotonous is Love; and everything that is not done for love is worthless.”
