Feast of St Loius Marie de Montfort

He was born on the 31st of January 1673 in Montfort sur- Meu, which is in Brittany, North Western France. As a young child he had a great devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, Our Blessed Lady and the Rosary, which he would promote throughout his entire life. He also had a great love of the Angels and would conclude his letters with ‘ I salute your Guardian Angel”. He would also salute the Guardian Angel of every city he entered. He was ordained priest in June 1700 and in 1706 was appointed by Pope Clement X1 as an Apostolic Missionary in France. He would preach parish missions, give retreats but he was vehemently opposed by the Jansenists, who followed the doctrine of the dutch theologian Cornelis Jansen who denied free will and maintained that human nature is corrupt and that Christ died for the elect and not for all humanity. He was also expelled from some Dioceses by Bishops who opposed him too.

St Loius Marie de Montfort promoted devotion to Our Blessed Lady with Rosary Confraternities and formed the religious congregation of the Company of Mary (Montfort Fathers) and along with Blessed Marie Loiuse Trichet, the Daughters of Wisdom. He also wrote the classic books; True Devotion to Mary, the Secret of Mary and the Secret of the Rosary. Throughout his whole life he called others to a better knowledge and love of Our Blessed Mother and  is regarded as one of the most renowned in the study of Mariology in the Catholic Church.

St Louis Marie de Monfort died on 28th April 1716.

St Loius Marie de Monfort. Pray for us

From True Devotion to Mary: ” …of all creatures the one most conformed to Jesus Christ, it follows that among all devotions that which most consecrates and conforms a soul to our Lord is devotion to Mary, his Holy Mother, and that the more a soul is consecrated to her the more will it be consecrated to Jesus Christ.”

Prayer in time of great need.

My God, my Lord, my all, what I cannot do, you can, what I cannot achieve, you can, what I cannot bear and suffer, you can. Please take care of …………. as only you can and in your own time and way. May you continue to be close to me, to bless me and to uphold me. I leave all this, humbly at the foot of your healing and life giving cross.

To you God be glory and honour and praise, forever and ever amen.
