November: Month of the Holy Souls

During November, the Church invites us to pray for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Learn more. These souls have been assured of Heaven, even if they have been judged at the moment of death not ready to enter immediately into Paradise. This is because at the moment of death, they still had sinful dispositions, or still had hidden or unconfessed sins or had not sufficiently made reparation or expiation for them.

The time spent in Purgatory is relative to the individual’s need for reparation. However, it can be shortened through our charity of praying for them, offering Masses for them, fasting/sacrificing for them.

Although they cannot pray for themselves, they can powerfully intercede for us.

These teachings come from Sacred Scripture (Second Book of Maccabees and Book of Revelation) and the Council of Trent and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

From Sunday 15th October, you can uplift envelopes and November lists. Name the deceased you would like the parish community to pray for and return these, with your offering for the Masses to be celebrated every day of November, as soon as possible.

“It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead that they may be delivered from their sins”
2 Maccabees 12:46 (DRA)
