Saints and Popes on Holy Mass

Read what these saints and popes had to say about the Holy Mass.

It is very clear and evident that the Saints of old and the Popes of the Church fully appreciated the true value of attendance at Holy Mass. They loved the Mass and understood that it is the joining of heaven and earth, our life with the divine and supernatural life of God. The Mass is the representation of Christ’s one saving sacrifice on the cross and the pouring forth of the blessing and graces from that sacrifice. Having been deprived of the Eucharist, the Mass, for these few months, now is the time to appreciate such a wondrous gift and if we have ever taken this for granted, maybe these quotes will give us a greater awe, joy, love, respect for Jesus truly present  body, blood, soul and divinity in the Eucharist and Holy Mass

St Jean Marie Vianney (Cure d’ Ars)

When we receive Holy Communion, we experience something extraordinary, a joy, a fragrance, a well-being that thrills the whole body and causes it to exalt”.

St Thomas Aquinas

The celebration of Holy Mass is as valuable as the death of Jesus on the cross”.

St John Chrysostom

When the Eucharist is being celebrated, the sanctuary is filled with countless angels who adore the divine victim immolated on the altar”.

St Teresa of Avila

Once, St. Teresa was overwhelmed with God’s Goodness and asked Our Lord “How can I thank you? Our Lord replied, “Attend one Mass”.

Our Lady to Blessed Alain de la Roche

“My Son so loves those who assist at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass that, if it were necessary He would die for them as many times as they’ve heard Masses.”

St Pio of Pietrelcina

It would be easier for the world to survive without the sun than to do without Holy Mass”.

Pope Benedict XV

The Holy Mass would be of greater profit if people had it offered in their lifetime, rather than having it celebrated for the relief of their souls after death.”

Pope Benedict XVI

In a world where there is so much noise, so much bewilderment, there is a need for     silent adoration of Jesus concealed in the Host. Be assiduous in the prayer of adoration and teach it to the faithful. It is a source of comfort and light, particularly to those who are suffering

Pope Francis

At times someone may ask: ‘Why must one go to Church, given that those who regularly participate in Holy Mass are still sinners like the others?’ We have heard it many times! In reality, the one celebrating the Eucharist doesn’t do so because he believes he is or wants to appear better than others, but precisely because he acknowledges that he is always in need of being accepted and reborn by the mercy of God, made flesh in Jesus Christ. If any one of us does not feel in need of the mercy of God, does not see himself as a sinner, it is better for him not to go to Mass! We go to Mass because we are sinners and we want to receive God’s pardon, to participate in the redemption of Jesus, in his forgiveness”.
