All things were created through him and for him. He is before all things and in him all things hold together.” Jesus demonstrates that divine authority over creation in today’s Gospel passage, as he rebukes the winds and sea and brings about calm. Jesus rebukes his disciples by describing them as “men of little faith”, for failing to surrender and to trust in their Lord.

We are all going to have struggles in the Christian life and to be spiritually assaulted from time to time by the enemy. We will feel overwhelmed and become aware of our own helplessness. Like those Apostles we also need to cy out “Lord we are going down.” When we can no longer bear it, we should ask the Lord to show his authority and power.

Jesus wants us to have a reliance on Him, to seek His help and strength when our faith wavers. Let us in our prayers ask for that same inner calm and peace that He brought to the stormy seas and allow Him to deliver us from the fears that can paralyse our lives.

Saint Padre Pio

“Pray, hope, and don’t worry.
